Diamond Education College Background

The Diamond Education College was established in 1996, and is accredited by the Mining Qualifications Authority and the Education and Training Qualification Authority as a service provider for the diamond industry. The Diamond Education College is certified with SABS with ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems certificate.

This ensures students receive quality training that is recognised by the educational authorities. The Diamond Education College is recognised by the South African Diamond and Precious Metals Regulator as a training institute. Tienie Barnes – the founder of rough in valuation courses worldwide – is internationally renowned and famous for his professionalism, unsurpassed knowledge of diamonds and the Diamond industry as a whole, and for the quality of training provided.

In addition to its training facilities, the Diamond Education College was instrumental in defining the unit standards for evaluating proficiency in the various aspects of the diamond industry. Many of the educational manuals used for training in this sector were developed by the Diamond Education College.
